Developed in collaboration with university faculty, these programs are thoughtfully designed to align with course objectives and learning outcomes across education, teaching, early childhood, and related disciplines.

DENMARK & GERMANY: Early Education

Students from the University of Canberra’s, Faculty of Education, participated in a study tour exploring early education across Europe, visiting Billund—including the Lego House, Legoland, and the N.O.M.E study course—and Copenhagen, where they explored adventure playgrounds, kindergartens, and innovative learning environments. The programme enabled students to engage in professional learning, reflect on their own teaching practices, and critically analyse the contextual factors shaping early education internationally and in Australia. Students also developed skills in communication and collaboration, working effectively with peers and professionals from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.

CAMBODIA: Education

Students from the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts at University of Southern Queensland participated in a 16-day study tour at a community school, just outside Siem Reap, Cambodia. The program provided pre-service teachers with the opportunity to experience a different culture, develop cross-cultural literacies, and understand the challenges and opportunities of diverse educational contexts. Students worked with various age groups at the school and collaborated with Cambodian teachers, engaging in an exchange of professional knowledge. The program aimed to enable students to make a meaningful and sustainable contribution to the school and local community while reflecting on their professional growth and teaching practice.

MALDIVES: Education

In partnership with the School of Education at the University of Newcastle, students completed professional teaching placements in the Maldives. Third-year Bachelor of Education students (Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary) undertook their compulsory placements, contributing to NESA accreditation requirements. Placed in Maldivian classrooms, students worked alongside local mentor teachers with support from University of Newcastle faculty. While aligned with Australian teaching standards, the experience provided valuable insight into a different educational and cultural context.

SINGAPORE: Education

Students from the Faculty of Education at The University of Newcastle participated in a study tour exploring education in Singapore, gaining an in-depth understanding of multicultural and multilingual learning from early childhood to primary education. The programme included visits to local and international schools, a walking tour, a cooking class, and excursions to Pulau Ubin and Gardens by the Bay. Students developed cultural awareness, including aspects of language, literature, history, geography, and society, engaged with professionals and learners in real-world educational settings, and reflected on their experiences through the lens of applied learning principles in a context different from Australia.

The University of Wollongong has been working with CISaustralia since late 2014. CISaustralia did an excellent job in organising a 2 week study tour for QUT law and justice students to Cambodia in July 2017. Jane and the team were highly professional, efficient and very responsive to our requests. The focus of the study tour was child protection and human rights so Jane researched a range of relevant organisations and NGOs for the students to visit, as well as organising guest lectures and cultural activities. She also managed all the time-consuming travel and accommodation logistics! The in-country assistance provided by Samantha was exceptional. She had good local knowledge and was an invaluable mentor to our students and support for the academic supervisor. We were very satisfied with our CISaustralia experience and will definitely work with them again in the future.

Coordinating an academic Study Tour program can be a wonderful and rewarding experience. It can also be stressful and time consuming. Having the support of CIS throughout all phases of the planning, the Study Tour itself, and then in reviewing the program takes a lot of pressure off the overall workload. I have found CIS to be professional and positive, responsive to feedback, flexible, and personable. CIS is a cost-effective solution to organising an overseas Study Tour and the team works hard to ensure all arrangements are as requested. The OPC creates a welcoming environment for all students, an important aspect to consider as many students are travelling overseas and/or outside their family for the first time. CIS has the local knowledge on best companies to contact for transport, accommodation, and other logistics; I am comfortable travelling with the plans provided by CIS and feel assured that nothing is being left to chance. When things don’t turn out the way they have been planned, as can be the case when traveling internationally, CIS can think quickly to sort out alternative options and put them in place with a minimum of fuss. CIS is a quality company that are a delight to work with. I am currently planning my fifth Study Tour with CIS, and due to our great working relationship, the annual Study Tour is sure to continue into the future.
